All-rounder Shahid Afridi's ball-tampering in Australia at the weekend has revived suspicions against Pakistani bowlers, former players said Monday.

The 29-year-old, leading Pakistan in the fifth and final one-day match against Australia in Perth on Sunday, was shown by television cameras apparently biting the ball on a couple of occasions.

The on-field umpires instantly replaced the ball and along with the television umpire reported the matter to International Cricket Council match referee Ranjan Madugalle.

After a hearing Madugalle banned Afridi for two Twenty20 matches.

Afridi later admitted to tampering the ball and apologised for his action.

"I shouldn't have done it. It just happened in the heat of the moment. I was trying to help my bowlers and win a match, one match. There is no team in the world that doesn't tamper with the ball. My methods were wrong."

Afridi's ban has forced the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to appoint Shoaib Malik as captain for the Twenty20 match against Australia in Melbourne Friday.

Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif felt Afridi's behaviour was regrettable.

"Considering the past allegations against Pakistani bowlers, Afridi's act was a serious mistake," Latif told AFP. "I think he did it innocently and his apology minimised his punishment."

Latif, who was part of the 1992 Pakistan team when their pace pair of Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis were accused of ball-tampering, said Afridi needed to ensure he did not repeat the practice.

"Afridi should be very careful in future and must not repeat this act as the spotlight has returned on Pakistan once again," said Latif.

Pakistan coach Intikhab Alam also feared his bowlers would fall under suspicion again.

"Yes, Afridi's act was unacceptable and it will add extra pressure on our bowlers in the future... I feel sorry for him but hope that this is the last time any bowler does that."

Mumbai, India: Vipul Shah brings to you, once again after a long wait, the duo of Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan (Hum Dil Chuke Sanam) fame. The pair stars in his film - London Dreams. A musical flick that takes both the lead stars to London in the quest of fulfilling Arjun’s (Ajay Devgan) grandfathers dream of getting on to the musical stage in London.

The story of jealously, previously named as Rashque when the movie’s lead roles were offered to Amir Khan and Shahrukh Khan. Later the roles were assigned to Salman and Ajay.

Along with Ajay Devgan and Salman Khan, the film’s cast include Asin, Om Puri and Cris Wilnson with Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy playing with the cords and Prasoon Joshi sets the lyrics for the film.

The story of movie revolves around the lives of two friends, Arjun (Ajay Devgan) and Mannu (Salman Khan). Arjun leaves for London with his ambitious plan to conquer the music scene in the foreign land. Arjun sets up his musical band with the help of Zoheb and Wasim and Priya (Asin Thottumkal) becomes the dancer for Arjun’s group.

Mannu, continues living in India. His happy go lucky nature takes him to sing and dance in local wedding. Arjun comes back and takes Mannu to London where the two friends become entangled in the strange and demanding situation.

LONDON DREAMS - is the one of the Bollywood’s biggest musical flick and its difficult to wait for the release. The film is set to hit the cinema on October 30, 2009.

Commingling Jagannath’s unique style of direction and the admirable body language of Prabhas this will stand as a trendsetter.”

“This is an out and out commercial movie; you will have romance, action, fun, emotion and everything you name” says director Puri.

Kangana is very happy being introduced by her favourite director Jagannath, opposite Prabhas and not lease on the prestigious banner of Aditya Movies. She hopes to make it big with her first stint in Telugu.

‘Ekniranjan’ will complete production in a single schedule that continues till July.

If Feroz Khan would have been alive today, he would have made a movie like ACID FACTORY. Reason being that this is exactly the kind of film that Feroz Khan loved to make decades back. A thriller which is stylish, non-stop and has a definite story to tell, ACID FACTORY is truly Suparn Verma's tribute to Feroz Khan brand of cinema.

While Feroz Khan inspiration is quite apparent, once also sees the film maker bearing similar sensibilities as that of Abbas Mustan when it comes to putting together a thriller. The film is pretty much like Abbas Mustan directed RACE where there was a twist in the plot at more than half a dozen odd junctures. As has been a much known adage, for a suspense thriller to work, it should have a strong motive, a curiosity factor that rises exponentially and the final twist that catches you unaware. But what can one say about a film like ACID FACTORY where during the entire 100 minutes, there is one layer after another being peeled off, hence leading to a mystery being broken at practically every 10 minutes?
ACID FACTORY is also special since it doesn't proclaim audiences to keep their brains at home. The basic plot of ACID FACTORY [memory loss] is such that along with the characters in the film, even audiences are forced to keep their minds alert without blinking an eyelid. Due to the intelligent nature of the film's screenplay, you can't keep your 'brains at home' to be entertained. Moreover, the film is not just talk heavy without a respite. To give some breather to audiences, action director Tinu Verma comes in handy and along with Suparn gets close to half a dozen full blown action/chase sequences.

When it comes to action films, it is quite easy to look down upon them and pass on as mere time pass thrillers. However, ACID FACTORY goes beyond that. As an underdog film that has arrived amidst strong competition, it has a deep rooted element of diminishing morality and values when it comes to mankind. deceased chief minister's loyalists on Thursday unleashing a strident campaign for making his son Jaganmohan Reddy the new chief minister.

The campaign — quite unprecedented for the vulgar haste with which it has been mounted — reached a crescendo by evening when K Rosaiah was sworn in as interim CM. The erstwhile YSR cabinet in the presence of new CM Rosaiah passed a resolution on Thursday evening demanding that Jagan -- just 100 days into formal politics -- be made the new CM.

"Jagan knew the mind of Rajasekhara Reddy. He alone can finish the unfulfilled agenda of his father," said government chief whip Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka who is marshalling the MLAs in favour of Jagan. Analysts said that more than Jagan it's the lobby that gained from YSR that wants the son to take over the reins of the state, with a view to perpetuate status quo.

Congress sources in Delhi, however, said the high command was taking a dim view of this unseemly strong-arm tactic to push through Jagan as CM. They threw up other names as possible successor: Union urban development minister Jaipal Reddy, minister of state for defence Pallam Raju, NTR's daughter and junior Union minister Purandeshwari Devi and acting CM K Rosaiah.

The day of dramatic developments began soon after it became clear that Rajasekhara Reddy had perished in the helicopter crash. Minutes after the bodies were recovered, the "Jagan-as-CM" campaign picked up momentum. Almost all the state ministers, about 22 MPs and several Congress legislators pitched Jagan's case to the media even as hundreds of party workers gathered at the secretariat, CM's camp office, Gandhi Bhavan and various traffic intersections vocally making a similar demand.

By the afternoon, the Jagan group met Union law minister M Veerappa Moily at the Lake View guest house in pursuance of their demand even as many Congress MLAs faxed individual memorandum to the party headquarters in New Delhi in support of Jagan as CM.

By the evening, minutes after K Rosaiah was sworn in as chief minister, the Jagan loyalists met governor N D Tiwari and submitted a list of 122 signatures in support of him being made the chief minister. According to sources, there was even an attempt to pressure the governor to swear in Jagan as acting CM immediately, but that was abandoned as Rosaiah had already been sworn in by the time the loyalists reached Raj Bhavan.

Analysts said that the Jagan camp realised that there would be a power struggle for the CM's post and therefore decided to make the pitch first. An ungainly battle is imminent as there are many other aspirants for the CM's post including Rajya Sabha members V Hanumantha Rao and K Keshava Rao, apart from Jaipal Reddy, Pallam Raju and Purandeshwari Devi.

Jagan, 36, is a first time MP from Kadapa and is merely 100 days old in politics. While Veerappa Moily made it clear that Rosaiah was only an interim CM and that the Congress high command will chose YSR's successor in the next few days, the Jagan votaries seem ready to take on the central leadership on the issue.

Virat Kohli will replace injured India opener Gautam Gambhir for the one-day tri-series in Sri Lanka, the Indian cricket board said here on Thursday.

Gambhir strained his groin muscle and will return home from Colombo to rest for 10 days, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said in a statement.

India, Sri Lanka and New Zealand hope to put in impressive performances in a tri-series starting here on Tuesday to boost confidence ahead of the Champions Trophy.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni's India side start as favourites despite missing injured opener Virender Sehwag and paceman Zaheer Khan, having beaten both New Zealand and Sri Lanka in their own backyards in their last one-day series.

India are seeking a hat-trick of wins in Sri Lanka after clinching a pair of bilateral five-match series in August 2008 and in February this year.

Each team will play two league matches before the top two qualify for the final on September 14. The hosts clash with New Zealand in Tuesday's opening game.

Sri Lanka's record-breaking Muttiah Muralitharan believes the series will help the teams prepare for the eight-nation Champions Trophy which opens in South Africa on September 22.

"The tri-series will be good preparation for the upcoming Champions Trophy," said the off-spinner who is the world's leading wicket-taker in Tests (783) and one-day internationals (511).

"New Zealand have shown in the past few days how much more dangerous they are in the shorter version, winning both Twenty20 matches, and India have happy memories of Sri Lanka after two series wins here in the last 13 months.

"It will be a great test for the Sri Lankan team."

Daniel Vettori's New Zealanders salvaged some of their reputation when they stunned the hosts in two Twenty20 internationals last week after being whitewashed in the preceding two-Test series.

"The guys will take a lot of confidence from that," Vettori said after his team's Twenty20 success.

"They can take that into the one-dayers. For us, to make the final will be a great stepping stone for the Champions Trophy."

Focus will be on Indian batsman Rahul Dravid and New Zealand paceman Shane Bond, returning to one-day sides after playing their last match in 2007.

Bond, 34, became eligible to play after severing links with the unauthorised Indian Cricket League, while Dravid, 36, was recalled ahead of India's busy international schedule for his wealth of experience.

Vettori was impressed with Bond's form in the Twenty20 matches in Colombo where the fast bowler bagged three crucial wickets.

"It's great for him to start the way he has and I think he'll get better and better," said Vettori.

"He looks confident and when Shane is confident, he's really a good bowler. I think we'll see more of that as the one-day series goes on."

Dravid got the selectors' nod after a couple of younger batsmen failed to cope with short-pitched deliveries in the World Twenty20 in England in June.

He is only the second Indian after Sachin Tendulkar in the current team to have completed 10,000 one-day runs.

India's South African coach Gary Kirsten welcomed Dravid's return.

"It's good to have him back," Kirsten said recently. "He is a very experienced player and adds massive value to the team. He is a natural performer."

India will play New Zealand on Friday and take on Sri Lanka on Saturday in back-to-back matches.

The Forbes said that Dhoni earns $8 million in endorsements, from the brands like Reebok, General Electric and Pepsi, and the rest from his cricket salary and fees. Among all Indian athletes and entertainers, Dhoni's total of 17 corporate sponsors is second only to Bollywood star and co-owner of the Knight Riders, Shah Rukh Khan.
Batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar is in the second place in the list of The World's Top-Earning Cricketers. Tendulkar, known to fans as Little Master, is considered among the greatest batsman in cricket history.

The Centre on Monday accepted the demand from the Andhra Pradesh government for a CBI probe into the helicopter crash that killed Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and four others.

Home Minister P Sabita Indra Reddy told the media that Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has agreed to a request in this regard.

Reddy said: “There are several doubts in the minds of the eight crore people of this state about the crash. The government decided to go for a thorough inquiry and place all the facts before the people.”

The state would also hold an investigation and a two-member expert committee comprising M R Reddy, a retired IPS official and an expert in VIP security, and H S Kola, former director general, civil aviation, has been appointed to investigate all aspects of the incident and the events before and after the crash. The committee will submit its report in two months.

However, she did not explain why an enquiry was needed at the state level. A press release from the CM’s office clarified that the government was ‘determined to bring out all details and facts’ behind the incident.

Two more enquiries are also in progress. The state government has already ordered a probe by the Crime Investigation Department while the Central government has appointed a panel comprising the Director General of Civil Aviation to conduct an inquiry. The decision to seek a CBI enquiry was taken at a high level cabinet meeting held on Monday morning. Following this, Chief Minister K Rosaiah spoke to the Union Home Minister, who agreed to the request.

Meanwhile, a preliminary report by the criminal investigation department has said if YSR had waited for two more hours, a new Augusta Westland 139 chopper would have been made available to him instead of the 10-year-old Bell-430 which had flown more hours than the mandatory time frame.

The aircraft had not been used for the past four months even after flying 582 hours –– 82 hours more than the mandatory time frame of 500 hours –– after which it should have been overhauled. The report is not sure if it was overhauled or not.

However, information in this regard was given to YSR only at the airport and when his chief security officer expressed concern over the issue, he was reportedly overruled by Reddy as he was keen on going ahead with his programme.

The Augusta Westland, which the government bought barely three months earlier, had been sent for servicing and it landed at the airport two hours after YSR took off. The report hints at haste and negligence on the part of officials and suggested that a full scale enquiry could only answer some of the questions raised. One of these is that perhaps Bell 430 and the pilots were not fully equipped with the standard flight operations like maps of contingency flight paths. “If they had the maps, they would have known that there were convenient plain areas, just 2 km from Atamakur/Rudrakonda (where the copter crashed), for an emergency landing,” the report said.
