1,200 BMTC buses to be launched
BANGALORE: The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation will launch 1,200 buses for the year April 2008 - April 2009.
While 200 Vajra (Volvo) buses will be introduced, 500 of the new will be Blue Parisara Vahinis (standard buses). The remaining will be Suvarnas, the semi-luxury buses which will ply only during peak hours.
These buses will connect the new BBMP areas with the urban areas, said BMTC managing director Upendra Tripathy.
He said 10,000 buses will be launched in a phased manner in the next five years. This is to provide good connectivity to the new BBMP areas, and encourage at least 65% of the population take to public transportation.
